A major component of the Office of Technology Investments is the Ohio Third Frontier, an internationally recognized technology-based economic development initiative that is successfully changing the trajectory of Ohio’s economy. The $2.1 billion initiative supports existing industries that are transforming themselves with new, globally competitive products and fostering the formation and attraction of new companies in emerging industry sectors. Ohio Third Frontier provides funding to Ohio technology-based companies, universities, nonprofit research institutions, and other organizations to create new technology-based products, companies, industries, and jobs.

Incorporated in the spring of 1992, the Agency is a nonprofit community development corporation whose mission is “strengthen neighborhoods in Northeast Ohio through comprehensive community development.”

FRDC carries out community revitalization activity through the development of affordable and market rate housing, promotes economic development activity through commercial, retail and institutional initiatives, and acts as a catalyst to spur community visioning through comprehensive master planning. In response to planning activities FRDC develops programs and partnerships to address educational, health and wellness, safety, sustainability, technological and youth initiatives. FRDC is a certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) in the city of East Cleveland.

Cleveland Clinic and its partners Case Western Reserve University, The Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s, have established the National Center for Accelerated Innovation (NCAI), a center that will significantly increase the generation of new, patient benefiting products related to priority targets set by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
